L’Astrild à masque noir a été redécouvert en République Démocratique du Congo après 73 ans sans observations
Ce petit passereau n'avait pas été observé depuis 1950, mais un petit groupe a été repéré en septembre 2023 lors d'une expédition menée dans le parc national de l'Upemba.
