Deux aigles pour une pintade

Introduction
L’Aigle martial (Polemaetus Bellicosus) est le plus grand aigle d’Afrique, avec une envergure pouvant atteindre 2,6 m. C’est un rapace puissant, chassant des oiseaux mais aussi des mammifères dont la taille peut atteindre celle d’une Antilope impala.
Bruno Tredez, un photographe amateur (son site web : Bruno.tredez.com) qui participait à un voyage naturaliste au Kenya en juin 2009, a pu assister à une scène spectaculaire dans la Samburu National Reserve: alors qu’un Aigle martial avait capturé et tué une Pintade vulturine, un Aigle ravisseur (Aquila rapax) a tenté de s’en emparer, déclenchant un combat entre les deux prédateurs. Bruno nous a transmis une très belle série de photos.
Abstract
The Martial Eagle Polemaetus bellicosus is a very large eagle, the largest in Africa, with a length of 76-96 cm and a wingspan of 188-260 cm. In some areas birds form an important part of the diet, whereas in other areas the diet is largely mammalian; animals as large as an Impala calf can be killed.
The Tawny Eagle Aquila rapax is also a large bird of prey. It is about 62-72 cm in length and has a wingspan of 165-185 cm. His diet is largely fresh carrion of all kinds, but it will kill small mammals up to the size of a rabbit, reptiles and birds up to the size of guineafowl. It will also steal food from other raptors.
During a birding trip in June 2009 in Kenya, Bruno Tredez watched in the Samburu National Reserve a Tawny Eagle trying to rob a Martial Eagle of a Vulturine Guineafowl it had just killed.
